Social & Historical Sciences

UCL Social & Historical Sciences is a large and vibrant community of academics and students

Our interests span the globe, as we seek to understand the social, political, economic, cultural and environmental processes that have shaped the world over time. We work across eight departments and institutes: the departments of Anthropology, Economics, Geography, History, History of Art, and Political Science, and the institutes of the Americas, Archaeology and Advanced Studies.

100 in 10

The 100 in 10 initiative is a strategic vision for the Faculty of Social and Historical Sciences to recruit and graduate 100 PhD students from Black British, British Bangladeshi and British Pakistani backgrounds over 10 years. These three BME categories are statistically the most under-represented in UK higher education, including at UCL and within SHS.
