At the UCL Environmental Radiometric Facility, our strength lies in the expertise and dedication of our team.
Each member brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to ensure the highest standards of radiometric and isotope analysis. Meet the professionals who are committed to supporting your research and helping you achieve accurate, reliable results.
The Team
- Dr Handong Yang
Facility Manager
Dr Handong Yang has been a cornerstone of the UCL Environmental Radiometric Facility since its inception in 2003. With a PhD from UCL and a background in environmental science, Dr Yang has led the facility in analysing over 700 sediment, peat, and soil cores from around the globe. His expertise includes radiometric dating, environmental pollution, and isotope geochemistry. Dr Yang’s research has had a global impact, with projects conducted across Europe, China, Africa, and the Americas, focusing on the intricate dynamics of lake pollution, trace metal cycling, and environmental monitoring using innovative radiometric techniques.
- Dr Lucy Roberts
Academic Coordinator
Dr Lucy Roberts is a leading environmental geochemist with a strong focus on reconstructing past environmental and climatic changes through lake sediment analysis. As a Lecturer in Environmental Change, Dr Roberts has applied her expertise globally, from the Arctic to Asia and Europe, using innovative geochemical and ecological techniques to study how human activities and natural processes influence aquatic ecosystems over time. Her research not only deepens our understanding of environmental change but also supports ecosystem management and policy-making, making significant contributions to the field. Dr Roberts' work is at the forefront of developing new methods for monitoring and restoring aquatic environments, reflecting her commitment to advancing both science and practical solutions.
- Jamahl Holland
Financial Coordinator
Jamahl Holland manages the financial and operational aspects of our facility. With a background in Biomedical Engineering and experience as a medical lab technician, he combines financial acumen with practical lab management skills. Jamahl oversees budget management, provides cost estimates, and ensures safety protocols are rigorously followed.
