Alex Albert

Alexandra Albert recently completed an ESRC-funded CASE PhD in citizen social science at the Cathie Marsh Institute for Social Research (CMIST).

Her research focused on citizen social science, exploring how people can be mobilised to engage in social research. Through a series of case studies, she examined the challenges and opportunities of using data generated through citizen science to address social issues.

In 2019, Alexandra was seconded to UK Research and Innovation’s Public Engagement team, where she helped set up a citizen science programme. She also worked on the EU H2020-funded Doing It Together Science (DITOS) project, delivering citizen science activities across Europe. In 2017, she completed an internship with UNESCO's Inclusive Policy Lab.

Before her PhD, Alexandra worked as a social researcher at the LSE Grantham Institute for Climate Change, Arts Council England, and The Work Foundation.

In September 2019, she began a postdoctoral position on the MRC-funded Act Early UK Preventative Research Partnership. Her research there examines citizen science and co-production in health, comparing approaches in Tower Hamlets and Bradford. Her broader research interests include participatory methods, public sociology, citizen science, cultural metrics, cultural policy, and inclusive development.
