On 15 January 2025, Professor Eloise Marais delivered her highly anticipated Inaugural Lecture, exploring the environmental and health challenges posed by unregulated industries, including agriculture and the rapidly growing space sector.
Professor Marais highlighted:
- The role of unregulated agriculture as the largest source of air pollution across the Northern Hemisphere.
- The environmental impact of rocket launches and re-entry burn-up in the expanding space sector.
- The potential of tools like remote sensing and numerical modelling to inform evidence-based regulations.
Special remarks were also shared by Professor Daniel Jacob from Harvard University and Professor Mat Disney, who conducted Professor Marais' Appreciation.
