Our people are the Centre for the Forensic Sciences. With a core team led by world leading forensic science academic Professor Ruth Morgan, research is carried out in collaboration with academics and practitioners from across the humanities, sciences and social sciences.

Name Position Description Contact details Professor of Crime and Forensic Science Ruth is the Founder and Director of the Centre for the Forensic Sciences. She is a leading academic in the field and leads the team to carry out the research needed to underpin forensic science with the evidence base it needs. ruth.morgan@ucl.ac.uk Dr Sherry Nakhaeizadeh Associate Professor in Crime and Forensic Science Sherry’s research background looked at interpretation issues and cognitive biases involved in forensic science interpretations, focusing mainly on forensic anthropology. Her current research looks at cutting edge technologies and the use of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence in understanding experts decision making as well as developing new methods and approaches that could aid in the interpretation of forensic evidence. sherry.nakhaeizdeh@ucl.ac.uk Dr James French Associate Professor in Crime and Forensic Science (teaching) James is our resident gunshot residue expert who is now focusing on the interpretation of forensic evidence. Name Position Description Contact details Jo Millington Honorary Professor of Practice Jo is Co-Director of Millington Hingley Ltd and works independently as a forensic science consultant. Jo’s specialism is in Bloodstain Pattern Analysis (BPA) and she delivers BPA training around the world for professionals and enthusiasts in partnership through Spattered Ltd, a company which she formed in 2020 and which is dedicated to BPA training and education. Jo conducts pro-bono work as a member of the Advisory Panel of Inside Justice and is a Trustee of the charity. She is pro-STEM and an advocate of widening participation in forensic science and holds visiting positions at a number of UK Universities where she delivers teaching and supervises research in forensic science. j.millington@ucl.ac.uk Dr Mark Amaral Honorary Associate Professor Mark brings a wealth of expertise in analytical forensic science.
