Philosophy and Theatre

10 April 2014

Thursday May 29

Roberts Lecture Theatre 106, Roberts Building, Malet Place

Philosophy and theatre are basically twins. They emerged from the same place at the same time: Ancient Greece in the 6th century BC. Since then, they have had a rich and colourful history of collaboration and conflict. This talk by Tom Stern offers a snapshot of that history, looking at particular examples, ancient and modern, to start us thinking about where they have been and where they might be going. A focus will be Nietzsche’s understanding of the significance of tragedy.
