1492: The Year the World Went Global

10 April 2014

Thursday May 29

Wilkins Gustave Tuck Lecture Theatre, 2nd Floor, Wilkins Building

Barcelona Columbus Statue Port Vell harbour

‘In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue’. He was, as we know, trying to reach the East by sailing West. Why? And why had no one tried before (or had they)? Three armchair navigators from UCL School of European Languages Culture & Society - Dilwyn Knox, Zoltán Biedermann and Alexander Samson - will try, and probably fail, to answer these and many other conundrums of the most decisive and extraordinary episode of world history since the advent of Islam.

A drinks reception will follow this event in the Roberts Foyer G02 at 7.30pm.
