About the lecture:
This talk will focus on the benefits and challenges of work for our mental health. With a specific focus on working in academia and unrealistic expectations, Professors Billings and Shafran will discuss the demands that staff face working in Universities in a post-pandemic context and focus on what we can do as an organisation, and as individuals, to support mental health and wellbeing at work.

Jo Billings
Professor of Psychological Trauma
Workplace Mental Health, UCL
Jo Billings is a Professor of Psychological Trauma at Workplace Mental Health and a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. Jo has over 20 years of experience of working in the NHS, government and academic sectors. Jo has led research on workplace mental health in a variety of settings including healthcare, the emergency services, civil service and higher education.
Roz Shafran
Professor of Translational Psychology
UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health
Roz Shafran is a Professor of Translational Psychology at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health. Her research focuses on the development, evaluation and dissemination of psychological therapies, including for perfectionism. She has published over 370 research papers and published 6 books including self-help books such as ‘How to cope when your child can’t’.
