Funding for current research students
PhD Conference and Research Trip Fund
PhD students are able to apply for funding to attend conferences where they are presenting research or to make necessary research trips. Application deadlines for the fund are 31 October, 31 January and 31 May. All applications should be made in advance.
Applications should include:
- A full budget breakdown and the total amount requested
- Evidence that your paper has been accepted
- A justification for the request in relation to your research project
- Your supervisor’s endorsement, including a report on your progress
Awards will not necessarily be made for the full amount requested but may be limited to a contribution. Any award may be made conditional either on presenting a version of the paper or research findings to a SELCS, CMII or CenTraS research seminar. All costs will need to be paid up-front by individuals and claimed via expenses according to the standard UCL regulations with all receipts provided. Budgets should be based on UCL’s expenses policy which you can find here.

Octagon Small Grants Fund and Octagon Friday Forum
Please click here for information about the Octagon Small Grants Fund and the Octagon Friday Forum, which both support UCL-based researchers and graduate students. Priority will be given to early-career researchers, especially those working in collaboration with graduate students.
