Dr Alex Samson's "Mary Tudor: brutal but brilliant" makes front cover of BBC History magazine

For centuries, Mary Tudor has been portrayed as a heartless zealot with the blood of hundreds of Protestants on her hands. But, argues Alexander Samson (SELCS), behind the grisly caricature stands one of England's most accomplished monarchs.
Dr Alexander Samson's (SELCS) article, "Mary Tudor: brutal but brilliant" has been published on the front cover of the April 2020 edition of the BBC History magazine.
The article covers Mary Tudor's turbulent romantic, political and religious life during the Protestant Reformation in England and challenges what we believe about her infamously dark reputation. Dr Samson argues that the reign of Mary Tudor was that of "a conscientious woman who blazed a trail for female rulers, and established England as a serious player on the world stage".
