The lecture will focus on the short stories by Brazilian author Machado de Assis and will be delivered in Portuguese. The event will take place online and will be broadcast on the YouTube channel of the Department of Anglo-Germanic Letters at UFRJ, and can be joined via the following link:

Dr Ana Claudia Suriani da Silva is Associate Professor in Brazilian Studies, at the School of European Languages, Culture and Society, at University College London (UCL). This lecture will discuss her most recent work and research on Machadian fiction. Dr Suriani da Silva is also the coordinator of the SELCS Brazilian Translation Club, a series of translation workshops aimed at disseminating Brazilian literature, in the English-speaking world.
Promoted by the Department of Anglo-Germanic Letters in partnership with the Graduate Program in Science of Literature, this cycle of lectures welcomes Brazilian and foreign researchers to discuss theoretical, comparative, compositional and historical issues of the novel, in a continuous exercise of reflection and scrutiny of the procedures of apprehension, analysis and interpretation of the novelistic genre.
