Join Afro-Brazilian author Cristiane Sobral, Dr Ana Cláudia Suriani da Silva and translator Susana Fuentes to discuss the translation of Sobral's short story “Cândido Abdellah Jr”.
The SELCS Brazilian Translation Club is a series of workshops in which students, translators, and enthusiasts of Brazilian literature meet to discuss the translation of a selected contemporary Brazilian short story. This new series of workshops focuses solely on contemporary Afro-Brazilian short fiction and is sponsored by UCL Global Engagement. It is a partnership between Ana Cláudia Suriani da Silva (School of European Languages, Culture and Society, University College London), Maria Aparecida Andrade Salgueiro (Escritório Modelo de Tradução Ana Cristina César, Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro) and Julio Ludemir (Festa Literária das Periferias).
All are welcome, and you do not have to be a translator to join in. Anyone who translates from and into Portuguese or has some knowledge of Portuguese is welcome.
The event is taking place online via Zoom (18h30 London, 14h30 Brasília). Please sign up for the event via Eventbrite, and we will send you an invitation to your email to join the meeting.
