Programme Structure
- Students choose between one major language, two major languages and a major and a minor language, plus a specialism from the humanities or social sciences.
- There is a maximum of two languages throughout the degree. Two ab initio languages are not normally allowed.
- It is possible to take more than one specialism within the humanities and social sciences provided the chosen subjects form a coherent pathway.
- When choosing a specialism and its combination with your chosen language(s), you should keep two rules in mind:
• You cannot take more than 150 credits at Level 4 across the four years of the programme.
• You must take at least 90 credits at Level 6 by the end of the programme.

Humanities and Social Science Specialisms
- Sample pathways can be viewed by clicking on each specialism below. The specialism samples are colour-coded: blue is for modules compulsory for all ESPS students, red for the language units, green for modules compulsory as part of the specialism and purple for modules optional as part of the specialism.
- The difference between the Full Economics and the Element of Economics pathways is that the former prepares you for postgraduate work in economics whilst the latter does not.
- Specialising in Law will provide an understanding of legal issues which is particularly advantageous when applying for law conversion courses - the necessary step before training as a solicitor or barrister.
- The Quantitative Methods pathway provides advanced training in quantitative research methods through UCL’s Q-Step Centre. Along with their language modules and optional modules in the social sciences and humanities, students on this pathway take five core modules that equip them with skills in research design, data analysis, statistical computing, and data visualization.
