UCL Laws welcomes Dr Fernando Arlettaz, “Ramón y Cajal” Research Fellow at the University of Zaragoza (Spain) over the summer 2025

Fernando Arlettaz

Dr Arlettaz has published extensively on topics at the intersection of Legal Theory, International Law, and Human Rights. He has been a Fernand Braudel / Marie Curie post-doctoral fellow at Aix-Marseille University (France) and has held many visiting positions in numerous Latin American and European institutions. During his stay at UCL, hosted by Professor Myriam Hunter-Henin, Fernando will carry out research and liaise with colleagues on his current research project relating to “Populism, Religion and Human Rights”. Informal discussions will be structured around the following headings: democratic backsliding and the notion of a “legal populism” in Western Europe, the reaction of the European Court of Human Rights in relation to populist pressures and comparative perspectives on the protection of religious freedom.
