Panel on European Security in the Aftermath of the US Election
28 January 2025
The European Institute co-convened a thought-provoking discussion with senior practitioners from politics, policy, and journalism to consider the future of European security in the wake of the recent US presidential election.

As Donald Trump’s second term starts – and the geopolitical landscape shifts – this event explored the implications for transatlantic relations, NATO, and Europe's defence strategy. Our panel discussed the new administration’s likely foreign policy and global security priorities, their impact on European security and defence cooperation, including the European Union’s ambitions for strategic autonomy – and what this may mean for the war in Ukraine.
The event was co-convened by UCL European Institute, the Ukrainian Institute London, and the UCL Department of Political Science, as part of the latter’s Policy & Practice Seminar.
