European Institute co-hosts UK-EU Energy Trade Policy Roundtable
28 February 2025
On 27 February, the UCL Centre for Net Zero Market Design and the UCL European Institute hosted a roundtable that brought together policymakers and industry from both the UK and the EU along with academic experts.

Ahead of the upcoming UK-EU Summit in May, policymakers, industry and academic experts discussed possible ways forward to enhancing energy trade and cooperation on energy between the UK and EU. The closed-door event considered not only technical aspects of how electricity trading could become more efficient and the need to expand offshore hybrid assets, but also the wider political economy, and implications for European energy security, in the shared agenda of decarbonisation and climate diplomacy.
The roundtable was led by Dr Yaroslav Melekh, Research Fellow, Institute for Sustainable Resources, and Prof. Michael Grubb, Director of UCL Centre for Net Zero Market Design, and Dr Claudia Sternberg of the UCL European Institute. Organised by Mason Parker, the Centre’s Operations Manager, the roundtable formed part of a knowledge exchange collaboration between our units under the European Institute's ongoing Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence Programme.
