Monthly Spotlight, October 2024
25 September 2024
In this edition of our monthly spotlight we feature Dr Michael Veale, Associate Professor in UCL Faculty of Laws, and undergraduate student Carlota Ferro Bernardino.
Michael Veale
Michael Veale is Associate Professor in digital rights and regulation and Vice-Dean (Education Innovation) at the UCL Faculty of Laws. His research interest is at the intersection of law, technology, political economy, and public policy.
In his profile, Michael writes:
My PhD was in the governance of machine learning, and I've been delving deeper into that field since AI seemingly burst onto the covers of every newspaper and into every policy discussion. It can be overwhelming to keep up with all these topics, but one of the most enjoyable aspects is the community of people at this intersection.
Carlota Ferro Bernardino
Carlota is a second-year student in International Social and Political Studies. She is also President of the UCL branch of European Horizons.
She writes:
I grew up as the #MeToo movement unfolded and saw the world erupt into protest about racial discrimination in 2020, and my presence on social media throughout these and other socio-political movements made me notice the increasingly reactionary attitudes of some young people and right-wing politicians alike.
