Night of Ideas 2025 - Call for Video Shorts

The Institut Français and the French Embassy in the UK, in cooperation with UCL European Institute and UCL Arts & Humanities, are glad to announce an open call for video essays from students from all London universities for the Night of Ideas 2025.
The Night of Ideas is an annual festival of debate, discussion, performance, music, film and more at the Institut français, France’s cultural institute in London. It brings together top thinkers, artists and political figures to address pressing questions facing the world today.
The theme of the next edition, on 6 February 2025, is “Taking Action”.
- Geopolitics of power: how can we act effectively and on which scale?
- Commitment, youth and civil society: revitalizing representative democracy
- Freedom and capacity to act: increasing the empowerment of individuals
CALL FOR VIDEO SHORTS
We are seeking short video essays, thought-provoking in form and content, from undergraduate or postgraduate students currently enrolled in a London university.
- First prize: £250
- Second prize: £100
The two winning entries and runners-up will be screened during the Night of Ideas at the Institut Français in South Kensington.
TECH SPECIFICATIONS
The videos will be:
- previously unpublished work
- between 60 and 120 seconds in length
- mp4 / H264 or PRORES 422
- 1920x1080 pixels
- 24 or 25 images per second
- 15Mbps minimum
- Audio: stereo
- Subtitled in English
SUBMISSION
Upload your video to Vimeo in private mode. Email the link, password and 150-word English-language bio to florence.ferran@ambascience.co.uk.
Deadline: submissions must be received by 6 January 2025.
