Judge Damjan Kukovec discusses guiding vision of the Court of Justice of the EU
7 November 2024
Kukovec, Judge of the General Court of the European Union, engaged with UCL students and academics in a packed seminar organised by Dr Oliver Gerstenberg
Kukovec presented his analysis of the autonomy of EU law as the single central vision that makes the Court of Justice of the EU follow its specific path, and makes its case law comprehensible, predictable and explainable. The ensuing discussion focused on the role of the court in the context of the other branches of government and the wieder public, and on how such a unitary vision is developed and contested by multiple actors. Prompted by a question from a student, Kukovec reflected on whether or not his experience as a Jugde of the General Court has changed his view on the Court of Justice of the EU.
