SSEES Centenary Film Festival

7 October 2015

7 October 2015
University College London, offers a rare opportunity to sample cinematic works from Russia and Eastern, Central, and South-Eastern Europe. The films will be screened with English-language subtitles from October 12th to December 17th in the new auditorium of the Bloomsbury Theatre.

The twenty-three films being screened constitute an important testimony to the profound social, political, and cultural transformations that have occurred during the last one hundred years in this turbulent part of the world. They also offer a wide range of poetic styles and cinematic genres: psychological drama, historical drama, poeticized historical epic, comedy, thriller, literary adaptation, philosophical meditation, and documentary short. Some are now regarded as classics of world cinema; others are less well-known, even among film specialists, and are receiving their international premiere as part of the festival.

The festival is being supported by the British Film Institute, as well as various embassies, cultural institutes and cultural organizations which promote the arts and cultures of the countries whose national cinemas are being showcased.

Tickets are free and issued on a first-come-first-serve basis.
