As part of the UCL Department of Political Science’s 30th Anniversary celebrations and the bicentenary of UCL, Careers Week 2026 brings together leading professionals, careers specialists, and experts from across politics, government, international affairs, technology, and risk.
The UCL European Institute is contributing a day of Europe-related careers events on Thursday 11 June, including:
- an expert panel on future-proofing policy making,
- a policy foresight workshop, and
- two careers panels on pathways within, and working with, the European Institutions.
Whether you are considering careers in government, political risk, consultancy, NGOs, international organisations, or the private sector, Careers Week 2026 offers practical advice, industry insight, and opportunities to build future-ready skills.
This year’s theme, #theartofbeinghuman, explores the human skills employers value most in a rapidly changing world of work.

Thursday 11 June: Working In and Around Europe
From Digital Risk to Digital Readiness: Future-Proof Policymaking, Discussion with Policymakers

Join policymakers from the European Commission, the EU Delegation to the UK, and the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology for a panel discussion on approaches to managing digital risks and the EU approach to policy foresight to future-proof policymaking.
EU Policy Foresight Workshop: Designing resilient policies in an age of polycrisis.
11:45 AM - 12:30 PM
Join experts from the EU Policy units for a foresight scenario immersive exercise of a polycrisis, structured around a toolkit developed by the European Commission. You will have the option to join either a scenario on a Digital Trade crisis or a scenario on a Digital Skills crisis to put your new insights into action. Attendance at the first session of the day highly-recommended.

EU Panel 1: Building a Career in the EU Institutions

Are you curious about how you can be part of a political institution in Europe? Or how you can harness your political science degree to launch a career in the EU? Join our experts from the EU for a session about working in EU institutions and about Europe. This event promises to give exciting insight into what working within Europe entails, how the civil service can intersect with international institutions, and how to navigate the various application pathways.

In this session you will hear from a range of professionals whose paths took them to working with the EU. Panellists will uncover their career development and give insight into what working for the civil service, think tanks, international institutions and corporations entails. Come along to find out about the most important ingredients for success and how you can build a career in Brussels and Europe.
