The workshop has a twin aim;
to shape a diverse, cross-faculty, community-academic-technical culture collective at UCL, sharing best practice in KE and rethinking approaches, research questions and legacies; and
to prepare participants to integrate their skills into future KE partnerships, consolidating existing relationships, and learning from each other’s approaches.
We will work in the area of memory cultures – archaeology, history, library collections, archives – and how they challenge their own practices in view of a long-standing presumption of whiteness as the norm. Through a range of activities, participants will explore how to co-design methodologies and discuss case studies.
The case studies include:
London-based work on history, archives, and engagement (ASE / voluntary sector);
UCL European Institute’s [Black Europe] initiative;
Aademic and KE work from UCL History, East Culture Lab, Anthropology and at Northeastern University, London
Examples from Historic England and the British Library.
Together, we will map challenges and solutions across disciplines, communities of practice, and institutional cultures to create a shared understanding of new ways of working.
The project is funded by a grant from the UCL Grassroots Research Culture Seed Fund 2025-26.
This event is invitation only. For further information, get in touch with u.staiger@ucl.ac.uk.
