The role of scientific advice in informing policy solutions to major global challenges is increasingly well recognised. In recent years, European science advisory structures have been strengthened, and UK academics and scientific organisations have a considerable role in these.

Join us as we discuss the experience of working at the interface between government and research in a globalised world that questions experts and the validity of evidence-based policies.

Our speakers:

Professor Nicole Grobert, University of Oxford, Member of the European Commission's Group of Chief Scientific Advisors.

Professor Chris Whitty, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Chief Scientific Adviser for the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).

Dr Grant Hill-Cawthorne, Head of the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology, UK Parliament.

Dr Mangala Srinivas, Radboud University Medical Center (Netherlands), Vice-Chair of the Young Academy of Europe.

The evening will be chaired by Professor Graeme Reid, UCL.

The evening will begin with a short presentation from Professor Nicole Grobert on her personal journey to becoming a scientific adviser to the EU Commission. There will then be an interactive discussion between the audience and the panel.

Drinks and a period of informal discussion will be available after the formal proceeedings. Places are limited so early booking is advisable.
