Germany Pale Mother is a West German drama from 1980. Narrator Anna tells the story of her parents before, during and after the Second World War. The film was inspired by director Helma Sanders-Brahms' own family history.
When: 11 March 2015 7pm-8:30pm |
Where: Garwood Lecture Theatre South Wing Main Campus |
Part of the Reverberations of the Second World War in Germany and Europe research group, The European Film Salon is a film and discussion series which considers the representation of perpetrators in documentary and feature films. Through an analysis of film, the group seek to discuss questions such as: What is meant by the term 'perpetrator'? What is the legacy of perpetrators over the generations? How do perpetrators narrate their own actions? What is the place of individual agency and social mobilization in defining a perpetrator? And, what are the implications of our interest in and fascination with perpetrators?
All screenings will be introduced by an academic, critic or director and will be followed by a discussion of the aforementioned questions.
- This screening of Germany Pale Mother (1980) will be introduced by Mererid Puw Davies (UCL)
