This event brings together a panel of established academics, expert in the fields of European Economic and Monetary Union (EMU), regulation and governance. They will be discussing which potential changes to EMU governance could tackle the current debt crisis and prevent future ones.
The event is part of an ongoing research project on EMU Governance led by current PhD and post-doctoral students at UCL under the aegis of the UCL European Institute. (More here).
Speakers
Professor Kevin Featherstone (London School of Economics)
Professor Featherstone is the Eleftherios Venizelos Chair in Contemporary Greek Studies, Head of the European Institute and Director of the Hellenic Observatory at LSE. His research has focused on the politics of the European Union and the politics of contemporary Greece; his work has been framed in the perspectives of comparative politics, public policy, political economy and processes of 'Europeanization'. With K. Dyson he wrote 'The Road to Maastricht: Negotiating EMU' (Oxford UP, 1999), a history of the negotiations that led to the single currency.
Dr. Scott James (King's College London)
Dr. James is a lecturer in the Department of Political Economy at KCL and is a member of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in European Law and Governance. His research is concerned with governance and policy in the EU, comparative political economy and the varieties of capitalism, monetary union and the Lisbon Strategy, and the politics of financial services.
Dr. Colin Provost (University College London)
Dr. Provost is a lecturer in Public Policy at the UCL School of Public Policy. His primary research interests are American state politics, judicial politics, organizational behavior and government regulation, specifically consumer protection, financial regulation and environmental regulation.
