The sustainability of energy both in terms of securing supply and improving environmental well-being is a growing global challenge. The Nordic and Baltic states are in many ways on the frontline of these issues as vigorous innovators in the field of energy production, encircling the ecologically fragile Baltic Sea. At the same time, the region is energetically and environmentally challenged in various ways - for example by the declining appeal of nuclear energy and fear of Russia's use of gas and oil supplies as a political tool. Many of these concerns are shared by other European countries, including the United Kingdom.
We are pleased to invite you to the seminar "Politics of Environment and Energy in the Nordic and Baltic States" being held at University College London on 30 September 2011, 10.00am - 5.30pm. This is part of the UCL seminar series "The Nordic and Baltic States in the European Political Imagination" funded by the Economic and Social Research Council.
The speakers at the seminar will be discussing current and future challenges to energy supply and enviromental well-being that are highly topical for the countries of the region as well as the UK. Full programme can be found on the seminar website: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/nordicbaltic/EnergyEnvironment.
Please email Dr Allan Sikk (a.sikk@ucl.ac.uk) by Monday 26 September to confirm your attendance at the seminar.
