About this event
Practitioners from Norton Rose Fulbright LLP will be visiting the Faculty to discuss the subject of business and humans rights. The notion that businesses have certain human rights obligations is rapidly gaining broad acceptance, particularly since the UN Human Rights Council unanimously endorsed the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. It is generally believed that the Guiding Principles, which state that companies must investigate and mitigate human rights impacts, are crystallising into hard law. This lecture is an excellent opportunity for LLM Students (particularly those taking the International Human Rights and Corporate Law modules) to learn about on-going and future developments in this important area of human rights law, which raises challenging questions about how businesses balance potentially conflicting rights. Students will also be able to gain a perspective of how Business and Human Rights works in practice and have an opportunity to develop an insight into a career in legal practice advising clients on business ethics.
