New Fire Safety and Building Risk Management Standard launched

A new Fire Safety and Building Risk Management Standard has been approved, setting out what senior managers and duty holders need to know and do to keep buildings, people, and activities safe.

An updated Fire Safety and Building Risk Management Standard has been developed in consultation with key stakeholders and signed off by the Fire Safety Sub Committee, Work and Health Safety Committee, and University Management Committee.  

The updated standard reflects changes in legislation, helping ensure UCL continues to meet its fire safety and building risk management obligations while supporting the safety of staff, students, visitors and contractors. 

What is the standard? 

The Fire Safety and Building Risk Management Standard outlines UCL’s approach to managing fire safety and building risks across the estate. 
It sets out the responsibilities of duty holders and senior managers to support statutory compliance, life safety, property protection and business continuity. 

What are the key changes? 

The updated standard includes:  

  • Changes to reflect updated legislation and statutory requirements
  • Provides details of specific responsibilities for duty holders  
  • Job titles updated to reflect the current UCL structure
