The future of coffee is here

Installed on Monday, 8 June in the Wilkins Refectory, opposite the soda station, the robot barista is offering 24/7 access to barista-style coffee in the heart of Bloomsbury campus.  

Food at UCL has partnered with LEC Robotics for a month-long trial of the Xbot S Pro – the first latte-art coffee robot deployed at a university.  

The Xbot S Pro is the first six-axis, dual-arm latte-art coffee robot with beverage-printing capabilities. Alongside preparing a range of coffee drinks, it can print customised designs onto beverages, including the UCL200 logo, a distinctive way to mark the university’s bicentenary year. 

The robot, backed by NVIDIA, has been trained using Large Action Models (LAMs) developed from the movements and techniques of professional baristas. This enables it to reproduce complex coffee-making processes and create latte art with a high degree of accuracy and consistency.  

Visit the Wilkins Refectory by the end of June to enjoy a hot americano, cappuccino, and latte, as well as an iced americano and iced latte, all served by the robot barista.
