Estates sustainability

We have an ambitious vision to create and maintain a cleaner, greener, healthier, safer and more accessible environment at UCL.

UCL has a vision to become a leader in the field of sustainability through performing at the highest levels of excellence in multidisciplinary academic teaching and research; creating a culture of inspiration, innovation, action and trust, through engagement with its schools, faculties, departments and other stakeholders; and through the sustainable development and use of the estate.

For more details on UCL’s wider sustainability activities, refer to the SustainableUCL pages.

For the estate, we have an ambitious vision to create and maintain a cleaner, greener, healthier, safer and more accessible environment – and fundamentally, one which can enable UCL to realise it’s successful ambitions across all its activities. Creating a sustainable estate is a key enabler of UCL’s 2034 strategy for the whole institution.

Key UCL Estates sustainability aims

  • To deliver high-quality sustainable projects through the capital and strategic maintenance programme
  • To maintain an efficient and sustainable estate
  • To provide UCL’s staff and student with high quality, sustainable facilities services
  • To support, train and mentor UCL Estates staff to act as sustainability champions

All UCL staff are part of a community that’s producing ground-breaking research, delivering world-class teaching, and helping to shape a better world. UCL has a large environmental impact, which as a truly global university, we know we have a responsibility to improve.
