iBSc in Primary Care Research and Clinical Practice

Based in the UCL Institute of Epidemiology and Health Care, the integrated iBSc in Primary Care Research and Clinical Practice is the longest running primary care BSc in the UK. This programme offers a unique combination of ongoing clinical experience (students are attached to a designated general practitioner tutor) and the acquisition of academic skills relevant to a career in clinical medicine.

Programme information

The programme has been through a major re-configuration, and we ran it for the first time in October 2020. This IBSc comprises four compulsory modules – Clinical Practice, Research & Dissertation module, Changing Population Perspectives (CPP) and Critical Appraisal (in conjunction with the iBSc in Child Health); there is also a choice of two optional modules from four– Digital Health, Multi-morbidity, Sexual Health and Leadership and Management for Healthcare. While the student numbers are relatively small, each of the optional modules and also CPP attract other UCL undergraduate students undertaking other courses.

  • Entry requirements: successful completion of two years' study at university
  • Location of study: UCL Bloomsbury and Royal Free Campus, with sessions at a GP practice in London
  • Programme duration: 1 year
