Research Highlights, and Impact

The Contraception Choices website was developed by Dr Julia Bailey and team including Judith Stephenson from UCL Institute for Women’s Health, NHS doctors and nurses, academic experts, and young women.

Contraception Choices provides evidence-based information and decision support to make informed choices about contraception. The site provides information on the effectiveness, benefits and side effects of a range of contraceptive methods, and addresses common concerns using clearly presented text, interactive graphics, and videos. The site features the What’s Right for Me? interactive tool to help women choose a method of contraception tailored to their preferences.

The website attracts around 15,000 users a month.

“…I think it’s really good to go in (to an appointment) prepared with what you’ve looked at and have an idea in your head before you make a decision about it”

“It has made me feel more confident. Prior I didn't really have anyone to speak to about contraception and I didn't feel comfortable discussing it with my doctors so this bridged the gap”
