The HOPE project is a multidisciplinary research project, funded by the Health Foundation under the Social and Economic Value of Health in a Place (SEVHP) programme. The research team includes scientists in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at University College London (UCL) and in the School of Geography at the University of Leeds.
Study Lead:
Emily T Murray is Principal Investigator of the HOPE project and Senior Research Fellow at UCL. She is an international expert in examining how where people reside across their lives relates to their health and socio-economic circumstances. As a part of the Research into Extended Working Lives (RenEWL) consortium, started in 2014, she has developed a particular expertise in examining how place characteristics can enable extended working lives.
Co-Investigators:
Jenny Head, Professor of Medical and Social Statistics at UCL. Her research focuses on determinants of healthy ageing and healthy working lives.
Nicola Shelton is Director of CeLSIUS and Professor of Population Health at UCL. She has particular interests in older people's health and wellbeing and the geographical determinants of health.
Paul Norman is an Associate Professor of Population and Health Geography at the University of Leeds. He is an expert in health geography, GIS and statistics. This includes understanding how migration patterns and health outcomes interact.
