This module is designed to increase students` understanding of concepts and issues related to stress, health and illness. This module will look at how health psychologists can measure stress and limitations of these approaches. The psychophysiological response to acute and chronic stress will be described for healthy and chronically ill populations. Factors that may promote or moderate the stress response will be explored e.g. ageing, coping. The module will also critically examine the theoretical framework of the cognitive behavioural approach to stress management. Lecture titles include:
