The UK is renowned for its wealth of studies that collect information on large numbers of people from birth and throughout their lives, but there is a shortage of scientists with the skills to analyse them. ICLS is helping to tackle this, playing a key role in the building of capacity in this area, developing ideas on how best to combine the information collected on social circumstances, psychological characteristics and biological profiles.

Members of our Centre play an active role in the management of the ESRC cohort and panel studies, contributing knowledge for survey development and content.

We are also at the forefront of research using the biomedical resources of Understanding Society and the cohorts providing important new findings on how life gets under our skin and what that means for policy and practice.
