Wendy Andrusjak – Research Assistant

Wendy Andrusjak is an Ageing and Stroke Researcher at Bradford Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust.  She has developed her skills as a researcher over the past 10 years and is now close to completing her PhD on ‘Identifying and Managing Hearing and Vision Loss in Older People Residing in Care Homes’.  Wendy’s areas of interest include frailty, care homes and sensory difficulties.  She is passionate about improving care for older adults.

Gillian Thornton

Gillian Thornton - Research Assistant

Gill qualified as a Registered Nurse (Adult) in Leeds, working across various areas including general medicine, community settings and care home facilities.  She then spent a number of years supporting children, young people and families within the 0-19 Public Health Integrated Nursing Service and completing the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse programme. Prior to joining the Academic Unit for Stroke and Ageing Research, Gill was involved with a number of projects aimed at addressing frailty within a local VCS organisation, including scoping new services, building community networks and coordinating healthcare interventions within primary and secondary care.  Gill’s experience includes training, assessing and supporting learners; her professional interests include self-care and health promotion.

Marije Nicklin - Marije recently joined our HomeHealth team in Bradford where she is part of Age UK. In her spare time, she enjoys baking, crafting and gardening and she is part of a book club that meet once a month. Although originally from the Netherlands, after completing an MA (hons) in International Communications at Leeds University, she stayed in the area and is married with two children. Marije says: “I am excited to be part of such an innovative team and the study’s positive impact on the ageing community”.
