Association between Intergenerational Social Mobility and Health, Oral Health and Function in Older English Adults.
Socioeconomic circumstances influence adult health. Yet, we still not understand exactly how and in what extent changes from SEP from childhood to adulthood, known as social mobility, affects health. Moreover, there is no consensus about the effect of early life experiences on adult health and how these are modified by later socioeconomic experiences. Furthermore, less is understood about the underlying mechanisms between social mobility and adult health. A more dynamic approach is needed, that recognizes the effect of social mobility on adult health, and explore the underlying mechanisms.
New research of social mobility and less explored health and function outcomes may add important evidence to better understand how intergenerational socioeconomic trajectories affect health and function. To address that, this PhD will examine the association between social mobility trajectories and adult oral health, general health and functioning in a population aged 50 and over. Additionally, it will determine the size effect of health selection and social causation.
