Sahin is a PhD candidate working on the fire and earthquake multi-hazard vulnerability of high-rise buildings in Istanbul at EPICentre, UCL. He is developing advanced numerical modelling tools to investigate the enhanced risk of reinforced concrete buildings under the sequences of fire and earthquake hazards. His research project aims to provide guidance towards reducing risk under these two hazards and improving the city's hazard preparedness through engagements with local stakeholders.

Sahin has a background in earthquake engineering and civil engineering. He obtained his master's degree in earthquake engineering at the Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute at Bogazici University and his civil engineering bachelor's degree from Yildiz Technical University, Turkey. He worked as a research assistant for four years at the earthquake engineering department of Bogazici University. Throughout his research assistantship position, he took roles in the delivery of graduate-level courses as well as in the implementation of national and international projects. Specifically, he worked within a departmental research team responsible for Istanbul Earthquake Rapid Response System, was involved in post-earthquake studies, conducted non-destructive tests on various structures, and worked on nonlinear modelling and analysis of reinforced concrete buildings.
