Juan Palomino

Juan joined EPICentre in 2018 as a PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Tiziana Rossetto. He obtained both his bachelor's and master's degree in Civil Engineering from Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP).

Before joining EPICentre, he was as a research assistant in the Research Group for Disaster Management (GERDIS) in PUCP. There, he participated in projects focused on the seismic risk assessment of critical infrastructure, such as the CAPRA Project developed by the World Bank in Peru to assess the economic loss of hospitals and schools in Lima due to earthquakes.

In 2017 he won the CIENCIACTIVA Scholarship promoted by the National Council of Science and Technology of Peru (CONCYTEC) to study a PhD in UCL. His PhD project is looking at a seismic retrofit prioritisation scheme for hospitals in Lima - focussing on hospital functions and function inter-dependencies, rather than the buildings alone.
