UNESCO UK Chairs Conference: Building Partnerships to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals hosted at University College London (UCL) in July 2024
Event
The 2024 UNESCO UK Chairs Conference, hosted by the UNESCO Chair in Artificial Intelligence and UNESCO Chair on Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience Engineering at University College London (UCL), brought together distinguished UNESCO Chairs from across the United Kingdom to discuss and advance their collective contributions to science, education, and sustainable development. The two-day event focused on activating UK expertise and building partnerships to address global challenges and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The various chairs across the UK have agreed on the importance of improving the link between the UK and developing countries for knowledge exchange, with a particular focus on Africa, including the Campus Africa initiative. Furthermore, the chairs emphasized the need to continue collaborating on women and girls' education, which is also a priority for UNESCO. Finally, the conference provided an opportunity to showcase the work done by the different chairs and to highlight the importance of enhancing the visibility and impact of UK-based research.
