Maria is a civil engineer who graduated from N.T.U.A. (National Technical University of Athens) and followed the discipline of structural engineering throughout the last two years of her diploma.  She worked for a period of time at the National Observatory of Athens (N.O.A) within a research team focused on assessing and mitigating the impact of natural disasters. She pursued an MSc degree at U.C.L. on Earthquake Engineering with Disaster Management and she graduated with Distinction. Following that, she worked as a structural engineer (O.C.S.C. & AKTII) until recently that she started her PhD at U.C.L.

The topic of her research is the Assessment of the Impact of Multiple Hazards in Istanbul City. The research aims at developing a set of validated tools to perform multi-hazard risk assessment in Istanbul city and quantify the potential hazard levels associated with earthquakes, landslides and tsunami. The objective of the research is to improve the resilience of the city in addition to the hazard preparedness of the community.
