This free, two-day online boot camp will introduce you to how businesses operate. You’ll learn practical business and entrepreneurial skills in a supportive environment.
This two-day boot camp will introduce you to the fundamentals of the modern business world. It'll challenge you to critically assess business today and understand what risks and opportunities businesses face.
Working in interdisciplinary teams, you’ll be tasked with designing a fictional new product or service for a real-world brand, be it a large multinational corporation or fast-growing UK startup. You'll conduct market research and present this potential new market opportunity at the end of the course.
What to expect
This term the programme will be run entirely online using Microsoft Teams.
You'll learn about:
- How business works
- The problems business looks to address, such as Brexit
- The modern business environment
- How businesses identify and act on opportunities
- The most common tools of analysis
- Industry standard tools and techniques for market research and marketing
Who it's for
This boot camp is open to UCL students, staff and alumni of all disciplines and fields of expertise.
If you’re about to join the workforce and want to explore basic business concepts, or you simply want to learn more about some of the hard and soft skills needed to progress in your career, this is the boot camp for you. No knowledge of business or finance is needed.

You’ll need to have Microsoft Teams installed on a computer with a good internet connection. If you don’t have it, you can download Teams for free from the Microsoft website.
If you have a UCL email address you should use this to login to Teams. If you can’t use a UCL account, you’ll need to create a free personal Microsoft account to use Teams.
Web and phone versions of Teams are not suitable as they have limited features.
You'll also need a microphone (and preferably a webcam), so you can take part in group activities and discussions.
Dates and times
This programme runs once a term over two consecutive days. You'll need to attend from 9am to 4pm each day.
