Is it time to return to the office? A discussion with UCL experts
15 September 2020
In the latest UCL Minds podcast, experts discuss how Covid-19 is affecting the office of the future and what this means for our journey back to our desks.
'Coronavirus: The Whole Story' is a weekly podcast series by UCL Minds highlighting UCL’s interdisciplinary expertise on Covid-19. It focuses on managing, mitigating, and eventually halting the spread of Covid-19, and preparing for a post-coronavirus world. It’s presented by writer, broadcaster and UCL alumna Vivienne Parry.
This week’s episode explores what preparations are needed for us to get back to the office. UCL experts discuss topics such as public transport, correct mask fitting, transitioning back to the office, and working from home settings.
It also explores the impact coronavirus will have on our behaviour in the office, and our mental wellbeing.
The UCL academics on the podcast are:
- Dr Kerstin Sailer, Reader in Social and Spatial Networks, The UCL Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment
- Dr Simon Addyman, Associate Professor in Project Management, The UCL Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment
- Dr Lena Ciric, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering.
Dr Simon Addyman has been leading on a project with an external organisation, investigating what's required to return safely to office environments. This has been supported by UCL Innovation & Enterprise’s consultancy team at UCL Consultants (UCLC).
On the podcast, these experts discuss questions such as:
- How we should use shared spaces?
- What is the future for flexible working?
- What is the purpose of being in the office?
- Is flexible working here to stay?
- When the best time to travel to the office is to avoid crowds?
