SPERO 2 for doctoral students: Learn how to turn an idea into an enterprise

This free online workshop for UCL doctoral students will teach you the fundamentals of early stage venture creation and how you can make a positive contribution to society.

This two-day workshop will provide a practical introduction to entrepreneurship.
You'll learn about market research and business planning, and be encouraged to develop an entrepreneurial mind-set.
Even if you don’t have entrepreneurial ambitions, this workshop will help you reframe the skills you're developing during your time as a doctoral student.
You'll receive four training points through the Doctoral School when you complete both days of this workshop.
What to expect
During the workshop, you'll:
- learn about practical models and frameworks for early stage enterprise creation
- form a team with other participants and develop a business idea
- pitch your idea and receive feedback on your work
Across the two days you'll cover:
- Day 1 - idea development, market research and brand design
- Day 2 - business model design, operating model design and prototyping
What you'll learn

- profiling and understanding customers

- building teams and networks
- preparing a pitch
Who it's for
This workshop is open to UCL doctoral students from any year or discipline who are curious about entrepreneurship.
You don't need any prior business experience to attend. You don't need to be an aspiring entrepreneur or already have a business idea.
About the tutor
Warrick Harniess, Managing Director, Scandinavia Stories
Warrick began his career at Pearson Education, where he built two online learning ventures for Pearson UK, managing startup budgets of around £2 million. He pioneered a digital marketing and customer service strategy that created Pearson UK social media accounts with the greatest customer reach, shares and interactions. Warrick also created a customer support programme that helped Pearson-Edexcel achieve Investors in People Silver status and the Institute of Customer Service’s ServiceMark standard.

This course will run on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 March 2021. You'll need to attend from 9:15am to 4:30pm each day.
