Boxpark – the world's first pop-up shopping mall in the heart of East London – is now playing  host to a very unique kind of store: Launchbox, UCL's first ever pop-up shop.

Launchbox will showcase the hottest new designs and products emerging from UCL's creative students and research staff; from etchings, wallhangings and keyrings from artists at the Slade School of Fine Art to posters from CASA.

At Launchbox, students and staff from across the UCL community will also be showcasing their very latest designs and products in the form of knitwear, accessories and jewellery while by night the store will be transformed into a venue for events ranging from everything to poetry readings to gap year trip matchmaking.

With it's position close to London's burgeoning tech scene, the store will also showcase the latest apps developed by UCL students through a bank of iPads ready and waiting for visitors to play, test and influence their future development. What's more, the store will feature it's very own iPad payments software developed internally.

The store will remain in residence for at least a month with the possibility of extension.

UCL found and made an offer for the short term unit at Boxpark using the We Are Pop Up platform.

Commenting on the launch of the new pop-up, Timothy Barnes, Director of UCL Advances, the university's centre for entrepreneurship, said:

“Launchbox will provide a one-of-a-kind showcase for a whole host of creative talent across UCL and enable creative students and staff to flourish as entrepreneurs as well.

“With a presence in the heart of London's centre for digital entrepreneurship, Tech City, as well as the creative hubs of Shoreditch and the East End, Boxpark was a natural choice for Launchbox.

“Following what we hope will be a successful residency in Boxpark, we believe this could be just the start for showcasing UCL's creative talent – and we will be exploring the potential for a permanent outlet for the next generation of artists, designers and software developers to bring their products to market.”

Nick Russell, CEO of We Are Pop Up added,

"The UCL LaunchBox is a great demonstration of what can be achieved with the platform. It is designed to showcase new thinking for familiar places, and make creating new spaces like the UCL LaunchBox and connecting new and emerging brands very easy."
