Professor Andrew Eder is Pro-Vice-Provost and Director of UCL Life Learning. This position, with a mandate to facilitate the growth of short courses, professional development and executive education across UCL, follows a ten year term as Director of Education and CPD at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute. Professor Eder was recognised for excellence and innovation in teaching and learning at UCL as a recipient of a Provost’s Teaching Award in 2010.
Educated at St. Paul’s School in London, Professor Eder qualified from King’s College Hospital Dental School in 1986 and completed his specialist training at the Eastman in 1991. He was appointed to a Chair in Restorative Dentistry and Dental Education at the Eastman in 2008 where he is also an Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry.
As a Specialist in Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics, he also maintains a multi-disciplinary referral specialist Private Practice in Central London. Professor Eder has a special interest in the aetiology and management of patients with tooth wear and is Co-Editor of the BDJ book on Tooth Surface Loss and Clinical Director of the London Tooth Wear Centre®.
Academic interests include innovative methodology and technology in teaching and learning and the impact of continuing education, particularly on patient outcomes in clinical practice. Professor Eder is a Past-President of Alpha Omega, the British Society for Restorative Dentistry and the Royal Society of Medicine’s Dental Section. He is also a postgraduate specialty examiner at UCL and the Royal College of Surgeons and serves on the editorial boards of several international dental journals.
