The European Neuroscience Institute

A partnership between UCL and the University of Göttingen, Germany

Introduction

The European Neuroscience Institute at UCL is one of a developing network of such institutes, modelled on the original ENI at Göttingen, the aim of which is to nurture some of the outstanding European neuroscientists of the future, and to promote Europe-wide collaboration in neuroscience research.

The ENI comprises young investigator groups, funded by 4-10 year fellowships, which develop their own research programme underpinned by the wider neuroscience environment at UCL. A 'European mix' among the young investigator group leaders is aimed at. The initial members of the ENI have been selected on the basis of their excellence and diversity in research and, to promote European collaboration, the relevance of their research to that of groups in other ENIs. Further groups will be added to the ENI in the future.

The ENI comprises part of UCL's commitment to the career development of the neuroscientists of the future, and complements the training provided to younger neuroscience researchers by UCL's international 4 Year PhD Programme in Neuroscience (which takes approximately 25% of its students from continental Europe), its MSc in Neuroscience, and its Marie Curie Training Sites (see below).
