The Survey of English Usage distributes its world-leading software ICECUP for free, with sample corpora from ICE-GB and DCPSE.
ICE-GB Sample Corpus
By downloading the sampler you are agreeing to our standard terms and conditions (in summary: don't breach our copyright or those of our contributors). Read the license agreement on our ICE-GB ordering page.
The sample corpus package is for people who simply want to try the software.
Note that this package does not include a Windows installer program, so you will have to install the software manually. But it does make it easier to install on emulation platforms such as VirtualBox or Parallels for the Mac. See ‘What do I need to install the software?’ below.

How to install the sample corpus
- Download the zip file and open it.
You should see a number of files. If your computer does not handle zip files well, or if you prefer, you can download the self-extracting 'exe' version. We recommend you simply copy all of the files to a base directory such as "C:\ICE". - Navigate to the installation directory. Test the installation and clean up.
- Run "ICECUP 3.exe" in that directory. If you are not using Windows XP (who is these days?), run "ICECUP 3-notXP.exe" instead.
- To clean up after the installation, delete the version of ICECUP that you don't need (and rename as required).
- Create desktop and menu short cuts to ICECUP as you wish.
If you are stuck at any point, wish to configure the setup, or are having difficulty in getting the help file to open from ICECUP, see the detailed guide below.
