The use of research evidence in Parliament

STEaPP and the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology collaborated on a project to study the use of research evidence within parliamentary debate and scrutiny including the impact of POST

Research is one type of information that MPs, Peers and people working in Parliament use as part of their work. Many different types of research are used in Parliament and they come from lots of different sources including academics, charities, think tanks and businesses.

About the study

Using a mixed method approach, the study will provide an overview of how research is currently used across Parliament, and a series of in-depth case studies to identify how research feeds into core parliamentary processes of scrutiny and legislation.

This work is being conducted by POST's Social Science section with the support of STEaPP.
