About us
The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Cyber-Physical Risk is a national research centre led by UCL Security and Crime Science and UCL Computer Science. We are dedicated to training the next generation of leaders capable of tackling the complex challenges posed by cyber-physical risks and disinformation in today’s hyperconnected societies.
With cyber and physical spaces converging, threats to critical infrastructure, autonomous systems, and smart cities are growing. To respond, our CDT brings together expertise from multiple disciplines—including crime science, computer science, statistics, engineering, psychology, and media studies. We foster a collaborative environment that supports students in developing cutting-edge research on pressing security issues.

Our first cohort of PhD researchers will be recruited for September 2025. Our second round of applications will close on Sunday 15 June 23:59 BST.
Fully funded studentships are available for UK home applicants. Through industry partnerships with organisations such as the UK Home Office, Amazon, and Yorkshire Water, students will have access to real-world research opportunities.
The programme also offers a unique Venturer funding stream for UK home applicants, developed in collaboration with Albion VC. This initiative supports those looking to apply their research in entrepreneurial ventures, with the potential to co-found a spinout company with their academic supervisor.
